Saint Francis Auxiliary/Volunteers
The Saint Francis Medical Center Auxiliary was founded in 1959. The objective of this ecumenical group is to provide services to Medical Center patients, stimulate interest in the welfare of the Medical Center, promote a cooperative relationship between local citizens and the Medical Center and to support Saint Francis financially through fundraising events. With nearly 450 Auxiliary members and volunteers, the Auxiliary coordinates the following initiatives at Saint Francis.

Beauty shop services were established at Saint Francis Medical Center in 1969. Volunteers pamper patients on an appointment basis every Tuesday and Friday from 8:30 am to 12 noon.
Saint Francis Medical Center features two gift shops for the convenience of patients and visitors. An assortment of merchandise is available, including:
- Live plants and fresh floral arrangements
- Balloons
- Willow Tree angels and figurines
- Enesco's "Foundations" angels
- Candles from Village and Old Virginia
- Special holiday selections
- Candy
- Gift cards
- Baby gifts
- Picture frames
- Teapots
- Wind chimes
- Religious articles and inspirational items
- Greeting cards
Main Lobby Gift Shop hours are 9 am-6 pm Monday-Friday and noon-5 pm Saturday and Sunday. Healing Arts Gift Shop hours are 9 am-4:30 pm, Monday-Friday. The gift shops are run through the Saint Francis Auxiliary, and all profits are used to help support patient care services. Gift cards are also available for purchase. Established in 1987, the Healthcare Scholarship Fund assists those interested in training for a healthcare vocation. Scholarships are awarded annually based on financial need.
Junior volunteers must be between the ages of 14 and 17. Areas of service include admitting and transporting patients and assisting at information desks and the Physical Therapy and Patient Care departments.
Lifeline is an affordable, personal emergency response program provided as a community service to elderly persons who live alone, people who are disabled at any age and patients recovering from surgery or who face a lengthy recuperation period at home.
The Sister Esther Emergency Fund is designated for patients at Saint Francis Medical Center who are in need of meals, phone calls, transportation and overnight lodging.
Tele-Care is a service that provides a reassuring phone call each day to those who live alone, are retired, widowed, recovering from an illness or who just need to be checked on a daily basis.
Auxiliary membership is open to both men and women in the community. Membership fees are $5 per person annually or $100 per person for a lifetime.
